Ignite Conference is a gathering of Catholics for four days of real-world formation, renewal of faith, great people and powerful worship.
Join over 2000 high schoolers, young adults, leaders, teachers, priests and religious taking part in a life changing encounter with God and His Church.
An Invitation
I was sitting in the Cathedral in Brisbane at Pentecost 2022 when I felt a stirring from the Holy Spirit speak to me. We were singing a song by Emmanuel Worship when I was suddenly felt moved by the lyrics, ‘God of Wonders, here among us’. As I sang, three things came to me.
The first is that our God is a God of wonders. At this time when our world is so full of fear, uncertainty and powerlessness, we desperately need the God of Wonders to remind us of all that is good and true; that Jesus is present and powerful and able to move mountains in our lives. Like the voice speaking to Moses from the burning bush, I sensed God saying, “I will do my wonders…” That’s exciting! Are you ready?
The second thing that struck me is that we wonder. We wonder about life, who we will meet, what we will do, what the point is, and if God is really there. Young people wonder what their future will be and parents wonder if their children will be OK. No matter who you are, God wants to meet us in your wonder.
The third thing is that Wonder/Awe is a spiritual gift. This means we can pray for it to increase within us and to see with new eyes the kingdom of heaven in every person and situation around us. When this happens, watch out! The Church in Australia will be led by a wonder-filled generation ready to transform all around them into colour and light.
That’s why I’m excited about Ignite Conference 23 – Wonder. It’s a time to encounter Jesus for the first time or the hundredth time. It's a rare opportunity to gather together as people of faith from around the country. And as a leader, I always find Ignite Conference the perfect chance to ‘hit refresh’ in my own life and go away with new insights and encouragement.
A line-up of speakers and artists will be joining our expanding Ignite family this year at two locations. In Brisbane, we are excited to continue our partnership with St. Laurence’s College in the heart of the city. And in Sydney, we are super excited to be hosted this year in the Diocese of Broken Bay and to reunite with all our friends in Greater Sydney!
If you haven’t been to Ignite Conference yet, this is your time. I invite everyone to join me for four days of unforgettable Catholic music, speakers, dance, media, sacraments, workshops and worship. Let’s invite the Holy Spirit to breathe WONDER into our lives, Church and nation together!
